Compatibility between different generations of Wattsun Stack

At Wattsun, we continuously develop our power solutions with the aim of improving efficiency and capacity, among other things. The new generation Wattsun Stack offers higher performance, while the casing and dimensions remain the same. This means you can continue stacking the new and previous generation Docks and Packs on top of each other. Many of our customers are still using the previous generation now and in the coming years, which is why we would like to explain how these systems work together.

What works?
  • Stacking the Stack as usual
You can still stack the modules in the same way you are used to. It doesn’t matter whether you stack them clockwise or counterclockwise. The new generation has the same dimensions and connectors.
  • Stacking previous generation Packs on the new Dock 3000
You can stack the previous generation Packs on the new Dock 3000 to expand the capacity of your power solution without any issues. However, the old Packs cannot discharge at the full 3000 watts capacity; they will discharge at a maximum of 2000 watts, as they did on previous-generation Docks. In case of overload, the Dock 3000 will automatically take control to prevent damage. If the continuous power demand is below 2000 watts, the control system automatically switches to the top Pack in the stack.
  • Stacking new Packs on Dock 1500, Dock 2000, and Dock+
The Wattsun Pack 3000 can be stacked on previous-generation Docks, such as Dock 1500, Dock 2000, and Dock+. This expands your capacity while the power output remains dependent on the specific Dock you are using (1500 watts or 2000 watts, respectively).
New Packs will also charge on a Dock+ when stacked.
What doesn’t work?
  • Charging previous generation Packs on the new Dock 3000 while stacked
It is possible to stack previous generation Packs on the Dock 3000, but unlike the new Packs, they cannot be charged while stacked. To charge, you must use the Wattsun Charger 360 or Charger 600 after removing the Pack from the stack.
Update! You can have your current Pack updated to be fully compatible with the new Dock 3000. Contact us for a no-obligation quote.
Charging Options and Compatibility
  • “Old” chargers and new Packs
You can continue using your regular Wattsun Charger 360 or Charger 600 with the new Packs.
  • New Dock 3000 has a built-in charger
The Dock 3000 has an internal charger and connects directly to the power grid via a charging cable. This simplifies usage and ensures a faster charging time compared to previous-generation Docks.
Compatibility of the Solarkit

With the launch of the Dock 3000 and Pack 3000, the Solarkit has also been updated. This is because the MPPT range of the Dock 3000 has changed compared to the previous generation. While the Dock+ operates with a voltage of 12-48 volts, the Dock 3000 has an MPPT range of 55-80 volts. This means the maximum solar charging capacity of the Dock 3000 has increased to 1400 watts, compared to 400 watts on the Dock+. This change impacts the Solarkit components and compatibility between different generations of systems.

  • Adjusting the existing Solarkit for use with Dock 3000
If you use a Solarkit with a Dock+, it must be modified to work with the new Dock 3000. This is due to the way the solar panels are configured. While the Dock+ panels are wired in parallel, for the Dock 3000, they must be wired in series or a series-parallel configuration.
You can adjust the Solarkit yourself or have us do it for you. Contact us for a tailored solution. To prevent incorrect voltages being connected to different generations, the solar input connector has been updated. This means the existing solar cable will not fit the new Dock 3000. After rewiring the panels, replacing the connector is also necessary.
  • New Solarkit in combination with Dock+
If you are considering using a new Solarkit with a Dock+, please contact us for a tailored solution. The new Solarkit is specifically designed to work with the Dock 3000, and adjustments are necessary for use with a Dock+.
Connecting the solar panels is not possible in this case. However, power can still be supplied to the trailer via the Schuko plug. It is important to mention that the previous configuration remains available. Again, the voltage differs, and the connector is not compatible for this reason.
