Yes, you read it correctly! On Thursday, July 6, 2023, during ArnhemBedrijft!, Wattsun was declared the Best Arnhem Business of the Year. In the Stadhuishal in the center of the Gelderse capital, owners Koen Olieslagers and Bart Hendriks received the Rabobank Kloppend Hert trophy from councilor Nermina Kundić.

Jury verdict

A few weeks before the announcement, it became clear that Wattsun was one of the three nominees. Bakery Hilvers and good IPKW neighbor Plantics B.V. were the other formidable contenders, but the jury ultimately chose us. They called Wattsun ‘the epitome of a typical Arnhem startup that has earned its place at home and abroad in a relatively short time.’

Top team

Co-owner Bart Hendriks is very pleased with this recognition. “I am incredibly proud of what we have achieved so far. Koen and I are in the picture, but actually, our entire team should be there. Without that top team, our partners, and great customers, we would never have come this far. And the fun part is: we’re far from done!”

Local boost

Koen Olieslagers hopes that the award contributes to Wattsun’s mission. “We make sustainable energy mobile and available everywhere. In Europe, but also far beyond. Locally, we want, can, and must make more impact. So that together with local governments, businesses, and other stakeholders, we can take the step towards a emission-free future.”

Prestigious title

The prestigious title of Best Arnhem Entrepreneur of the Year is awarded annually and is a collaboration between ArnhemBedrijft!, the Municipality of Arnhem, Rabobank, and the Arnhem business clubs Sociëteit Jong Ondernemend Arnhem, Ondernemers Kontakt Arnhem, and Business Club Vitesse-GelreDome. The expert jury looks for the company that performs best in terms of development and innovation, customer orientation, business performance, sustainability, and sociability.
